“After a successful drainage procedure, too little attention is paid to the way the catheter is fixed to the skin. In my view, the latter is at least as important as the drain itself.

In addition to a classic fixation with sutures, there are various ‘suture-free’ catheter stabilization and fixation systems on the market, all of which have their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Three elements are essential for me, namely:

• a resistant and non-irritating ‘skin-safe’ adhesive contact surface with the patient’s skin,
• sufficient immobilization of the exit port of the catheter without compression of its caliber and,
• last but not least, the fixation system must consist of a material that is as comfortable as possible for the patient.

As far as I am concerned, the Drainpatch satisfies all these elements. Bedal has succeeded in combining and improving the benefits of the various systems on the market, resulting in a design that will hopefully become the new standard of its kind. “
